Autoresponder

« Back to Glossary Index

An autoresponder is a single message or small sequence that is automatically sent when a specific event occurs, such as a form submission, content download, or inquiry. It is usually immediate and transactional in tone, but often doubles as the first touch in a longer nurture or onboarding sequence.

  • Typical examples:
    • “Thank you for downloading” follow-up with access to content
    • “We’ve received your request” confirmation with next steps
    • “Welcome” message after newsletter subscription
  • Role in automation: Autoresponders provide immediate feedback and set expectations, decreasing perceived response time and building trust at the first interaction.
